Lemon Seedlings

I've been wanting to add a lemon tree to our plant family but haven't been able to find any at our local garden centers. So, the cats and I decided to grow our own. Several weeks ago we planted seeds from several lemons in a pot. And, now we have discovered that we have an entire pot full of small lemon trees. Our projects for today will include repotting these small seedlings into individual containers. Although we're in the South, we're actually too far north for temps to stay high enough for the trees to remain outside during the winter, so we plan to grow them in containers to keep them safe during cool weather. Some of the seeds are just now breaking through the ground, but one group is ready to be moved to larger, individual pots to give them more room. So, yesterday we purchased our miracle potting mix and have our new pots ready. Smudge thinks we can move the baby seedlings without hurting any, but he's much better at finding bugs than actually doing garden work. But, nevertheless, it's a
go for today. We'll report later on our success...or heaven forbid, any disasters.

Smudge's Philosophy

Hey, everyone! Its been a while since I've been here. Things have been busy. We've added a new arrival to our cat family. Smudge is another rescue. He was dropped off by a person that said she found him outside our shop. So, of course he was invited to join our group. He was so tiny that at first I had to feed him with an eye dropper. But soon was able to eat by himself and is now 10 months old and fat and healthy and one of the sweetest and most loving of the entire group. He loves to help me in the garden and is very, very good at finding bugs. His name describes him perfectly since he is solid black with just one white spot on his tummy. So, when he first arrived he was so little, he was just a tiny black smudge. It would be nice if we could all subscribe to the Smudge philosophy which is "Life is good!"

The Cat Group Has A New Arrival!

We have a new kitten at our house! Some heartless person evidently left it in our neighborhood and it found it's way to our place. So tiny I'm sure it was not weaned and cried for it's mommy for two days. But with good food and being around the existing cat group he is now fat and happy. Just one problem, he prefers to sit in my potted plants, but being so small still he doesn't do much harm. Hard to understand people that can take a helpless baby and just toss it out into the world to fend for itself. , H c w

NEW FRIENDS IN THE GARDEN

The cats and I have just discovered that we have new friends in the garden.  TWO snakes!  One is a Black Racer that lives around the pond area and the other is a beautifully colored yellow and orangey brown Rat or Corn Snake that likes it in the Pine tree Oakleaf Hydrangea area,  The cats and I welcome these two just discovered residents to our garden.  Also just noticed that the pink French Hydrangea is beginning to show color,  Love these!
